Americans dont eat enough fruits and vegetables

Nutrition hack for more fruits and vegetables

It is now common knowledge that getting more plant nutrients into our diets, can add years to our lives. Perhaps even more importantly, it can add more life to our years. But, consistently eating more fruits and vegetables is sometimes easier said than done.

After all, our diets are part of our routine. It’s habitual, ancestral, and so, a familiar comfort for us. Ever take notice that you tend to eat the same meals over and over? Or that certain events trigger specific food menus? Think Christmas, Cinco de Mayo, or 4th of July barbecues, for example. Does your diet look the same on these days year after year? This is because our diets are a result of both social and generational conditioning.

The bad news is, it will take a very strong will and serious consistency to break this conditioning. The good news is, it’s possible to change not only our own health-story, but that of generations to come within our families.

The USDA recommends filling half our plate with fruits and vegetables at every meal.

Eating more fruits and vegetab

Research published in March or 2021 by the journal Circulation, pooled self-reported health and diet information from dozens of studies from around the world, which included about two million people who were followed for up to 30 years.

Compared with people who said they ate just two servings of fruits or vegetables each day, people who ate five servings per day had:

a 13% lower risk of death from any cause.

a 12% lower risk of death from heart disease or stroke.

a 10% lower risk of death from cancer.

a 35% lower risk of death from respiratory disease.

“We wanted to investigate how much fruit and vegetables you need to eat to gain the maximum protection against disease, and premature death.
Our results suggest that although five portions of fruit and vegetables is good, ten a day is even better.”

-Dr. Dagfinn Aune, lead author of research, School of Public Health at Imperial College London

Eat the Rainbow

As if incorporating more fruits and vegetables into our daily meals wasn’t hard enough, we also need to consider variety.

That’s right, eating staple vegetables like tomatoes, broccoli, and carrots several times a week (while a good habit to develop) is not going to provide our bodies with the full-spectrum of plant nutrients we need. This is because different vegetables contain different nutrients, and we can’t get all the different nutrients we need from any one type of vegetable.  One of the easiest ways to consider variety is to think about the colors of the rainbow.

Red-hued produce is packed with antioxidants. Thus, they help with heart health and graceful aging.

Orange/yellow-hued produce contains antioxidants as well as vitamins A and C, which help with eyesight, immune function, and healthy skin.

Green-hued produce support several body systems, promoting brain, heart, eye, and digestive health.

Blue/purple-hued produce are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

White/brown-hued produce helps to lower blood pressure and keep cholesterol levels healthy. They also aid in maintaining heart health and reducing the risk of some cancers.

We get it. Really, we do. Not only is produce seasonal, there are some types of produce that won’t be readily available at your local grocery stores. Not to mention the fact that most produce at the grocery stores are grown with poor farming practices and picked early so that they last longer in transit and on the shelves. This is common and, unfortunately, strips the nutrients away.
There’s also the trouble of having to consume produce we just plain do not enjoy. Or how about those picky eaters in our family who cringe at the sight of anything green on the plate?

This is why, in addition to being mindful about adding fruits and vegetables to our daily diets, we trust Juice Plus+ to help fill in the gaps.

Nicole Hammond Juice Plus Partner

“In the last 6 years, I’ve been able to reverse the development of cervical cancer through diet and lifestyle changes alone. Juice Plus was a key element to helping me up my plant-nutrition game. Since taking the capsules I’ve noticed significant improvements in my energy levels, immunity, hair and skin. And after years of prayer, my husband and I unexpectedly conceived!

I have no doubt that a healthy diet helped prime my body for the baby that I am now carrying today. Taking Juice Plus gives me peace of mind that despite what pregnancy cravings or ailments might be effecting my dietary habits during this delicate time, our baby is still getting all the nutrients that he otherwise wouldn’t get from prenatal vitamins alone.

Juice Plus is safe for infants and I intend to add it to his food until he is old enough to eat the children’s chewables.

I love and trust these products so much that I became a partner with the Juice Plus company and would be glad to answer any questions you may have about them.”
